Rejuran in Seoul

Rejuran is an MFDS-registered polynucleotide (PN) skin booster that improves skin texture, fine lines, and barrier quality. The active ingredient is highly-purified polynucleotide (PN) derived from salmon DNA, manufactured by Korea's PharmaResearch. Unlike volume fillers, Rejuran is not a filler — it supports the skin's own repair and renewal over a 3-session course.

Treatment timeabout 20-30 minutes
Pain & comfortIntradermal micro-injections are genuinely uncomfortable; topical anaesthetic is standard, and the HB Plus formulation contains lidocaine to reduce pain
DowntimeMinimal — mild bumps and minor bruising settle within 24-48 hours
Course & onsetStandard induction is 3 sessions 2-4 weeks apart; texture change is usually visible between the second and third session, fullest about 1 month after the course
MaintenanceRoughly every 3-6 months, based on how your skin responds

How long does Rejuran take to work?

Most patients notice smoother texture and better-hydrated skin between the second and third session, with the fullest result about a month after a standard 3-session course spaced 2-4 weeks apart. Because Rejuran supports the skin's own repair rather than adding filler, the change builds quietly over weeks instead of appearing the next day.

Is Rejuran a filler?

No — and the difference matters when you plan. Rejuran is a polynucleotide skin booster: it improves texture, fine lines, and barrier quality, but it does not add volume or lift contour the way an HA filler or Sculptra does. Dr. Yun confirms in consultation whether your goal is skin quality or volume, so you aren't paying for the wrong layer.

How many Rejuran sessions will I need?

A standard course is three sessions about 2-4 weeks apart, then maintenance every 3-6 months. Texture changes usually show between the second and third session. Dr. Yun assesses your response before recommending maintenance rather than pre-selling a fixed package.

Does Rejuran hurt?

Honestly, yes — the intradermal micro-injections are uncomfortable, so topical anaesthetic is standard. The HB Plus formulation contains lidocaine, which is why it's often preferred for more sensitive areas. Mild bumps and minor bruising settle within 24-48 hours.

Duration

20-30 min (full face); 10-15 min (periorbital or lip)

Sessions

3 induction (2-4 wk apart); maintenance 1 / 3-6 months

Timeline

  1. During injection

Microbolus injection causes moderate pain. Topical anesthesia standard. HB Plus has lidocaine.

  2. Day 0

Visible papules at injection sites. Mild swelling and redness.

  3. Day 1-2

Papules flatten. Makeup typically resumed Day 2.

  4. Week 4 (sessions 1-2)

Texture and barrier improvement becomes visible.

  5. Week 8-12 (full course)

Peak effect. Maintenance every 3-6 months commonly recommended.

Process

  1. 01

Dermatologist evaluates skin concern, depth of wrinkle/scar, and treatment history — including known fish or salmon allergy (Rejuran is derived from salmon DNA; rare but warrants screening)

  2. 02

Rejuran variant is selected: base Healer (texture), HB (hydration hybrid), HB Plus (lidocaine, periorbital), I (under-eye), or S (scar) — if HB Plus is considered, confirm no lidocaine/amide-anesthetic sensitivity

  3. 03

Topical anesthesia is applied; injection plan mapped for intradermal microbolus technique (≤0.05 mL per point at 0.5-1 cm spacing)

  4. 04

Session typically takes 20-30 minutes for full face; vermilion or periorbital sessions are shorter

  5. 05

Induction protocol = 3 sessions, 2-4 week intervals (most published trials use this cadence; Cavallini 2020 consensus PMID 32799391)

FAQ

Is Rejuran FDA-approved?

Not as an injectable in the United States. Rejuran is MFDS-approved as a Class IV medical device in Korea (original Healer 2014, HB Plus 2021) and CE-marked in the EU. Topical PDRN-branded cosmetics may be sold under FDA cosmetic regulation in the US but are separate products from the injectable medical device. Honest regulatory framing is part of board-certified Anti-Aging specialist standards.

How is Rejuran different from JUVELOOK, Sculptra, or HA fillers?

All four work on different layers and pathways. Rejuran (polynucleotide / PN) is a regenerative biostimulator — adenosine A2A receptor signaling + nucleotide salvage — that improves skin quality without adding volume. JUVELOOK (PDLLA + HA hybrid) and Sculptra (PLLA) stimulate fibroblast-driven collagen over months for structural support. HA fillers add immediate volume via space-occupying gel. Korean clinical practice (KAAD 2026 survey, PMID 42087414) routinely combines them at different sessions or depths for layered effect; selection depends on whether the concern is texture (Rejuran), structure (PDLLA/PLLA), or volume (HA).

How many sessions and how soon will I see results?

Standard induction is 3 sessions at 2-4 week intervals (Cavallini 2020 consensus, PMID 32799391). Skin texture changes typically become visible between session 2 and 3, with continued improvement 4-8 weeks after the last session. Maintenance is commonly cited at every 3-6 months but is not standardized in published trials.

Does Rejuran completely remove acne scars?

No. The strongest available Rejuran-specific acne-scar evidence — Araco 2021 RCT (PMID 33755110, N=20) — demonstrated significant improvement on Antera 3D imaging at 1 and 3 months versus placebo, but the trial was small and explicitly preliminary. Rejuran is best understood as an adjunct to fractional CO2 laser, subcision, or TCA CROSS — not as monotherapy for moderate-to-severe scarring.

Is the procedure painful?

Yes — intradermal microbolus injection is genuinely uncomfortable. Topical anesthetic is standard. The HB Plus formulation includes lidocaine to reduce pain, which is why it is preferred for periorbital and full-face protocols. Honest framing: published Rejuran trials report transient injection-site pain in 90%+ of patients (Rho 2025 lip study, PMID 40402866), with mild and short-lived swelling and erythema.

Notice

Tell the dermatologist at consultation if any of the following apply.

  • Active skin infection or inflammation at injection site
  • Known hypersensitivity to polynucleotide or salmon-derived products
  • Active autoimmune connective tissue disease (relative — requires dermatologist review)
  • Active bleeding diathesis or recent anticoagulant use without physician clearance
  • Pregnancy or lactation (no efficacy/safety data — elective procedure deferred)
  • Recent (within 4 weeks) injection of permanent filler in the same area (relative)
  • Keloid-prone patients in atrophic-scar protocols (relative)

For your visit

  • Visible papules at injection sites resolve within 24-48 hours; bruising (if any) within 5-7 days
  • Cleansing from 3 hours post-procedure; makeup typically resumed the following day
  • A full 3-session course takes about 6-9 weeks (2-4 week intervals). Short-trip patients usually complete 1-2 sessions in Korea and continue at home or on a return visit
