Submental Fat Reduction · MFDS-Approved

V-OLET

V-OLET is an MFDS-approved Korean submental fat reduction injectable, mechanistically similar to Kybella (ATX-101) in the US. Its active ingredient, deoxycholic acid (DCA), is a secondary bile acid naturally produced in the body that emulsifies fat cell membranes. Unlike conventional lipolytic injections that merely shrink fat cells, V-OLET destroys them and triggers neocollagenesis for simultaneous skin tightening.

Overview

V-OLET is an MFDS-approved injectable for submental fat reduction in Korea — deoxycholic acid that destroys fat cells and simultaneously induces collagen synthesis.

Best for

  • Moderate to severe submental fat (double chin) unresponsive to diet or exercise
  • Blurred jawline and indistinct cervicomental angle
  • Residual submental fat after weight loss
  • Insufficient chin definition despite botulinum toxin treatment

Suited for

  • Patients with true double chin anatomy seeking permanent fat reduction without surgery
  • Those wanting jawline definition plus the skin-tightening effect of collagen induction
  • Post-weight-loss patients with residual submental fat compartments
  • International visitors prepared for 1-3 weeks of post-treatment swelling
Duration

20-30 min

Sessions

3-5 at 4-wk intervals

Downtime

1-3 weeks swelling

Peak result

4-8 weeks post-course

02

Timeline

  1. Days 0-3

Significant swelling, tenderness, and possible bruising in the submental area — expected from fat cell destruction.

  2. Weeks 1-3

Swelling subsides gradually. Numbness or firmness under the chin can persist briefly.

  3. Weeks 4-8

Visible submental fat reduction and skin tightening develop per session.

  4. After full course

Durable jawline definition — destroyed fat cells do not return absent significant weight gain.

Process

  1. 01

Dermatologist evaluates submental fat distribution, skin elasticity, and anatomy with ultrasound guidance

  2. 02

Treatment zone is mapped precisely to protect surrounding nerves and vessels

  3. 03

Deoxycholic acid is injected into the targeted submental fat compartment under ultrasound guidance

  4. 04

    Session takes approximately 20-30 minutes

  5. 05

Visible submental reduction and skin tightening develop progressively over 4-8 weeks

Aftercare

  1. First week

Avoid heat (sauna, hot baths), strenuous exercise, and alcohol. Cold compress eases swelling.

  2. Weeks 1-3

Swelling is expected and resolves gradually. A chin compression strap may help comfort.

  3. Between sessions

Sessions are spaced 4 weeks apart; the dermatologist reassesses fat distribution each visit.

  4. Long-term

Maintain stable weight — remaining fat cells can enlarge with significant weight gain.

FAQ

How is V-OLET different from conventional lipolytic injections (known in Korea as 윤곽주사)?

V-OLET performs adipocytolysis — it permanently destroys fat cells so they cannot regrow. Conventional lipolytic injections only temporarily reduce fat cell size. V-OLET also induces neocollagenesis, producing simultaneous skin tightening. It is the only MFDS-approved deoxycholic acid product for submental fat reduction in Korea, with Korean clinical trial data supporting the approved indication.

Is V-OLET permanent?

Yes — the destroyed fat cells do not regenerate. Results are durable as long as significant weight gain does not cause remaining fat cells to enlarge.

How many sessions will I need?

Typically 3-5 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. The dermatologist reassesses after each session, as individual fat distribution and response vary significantly.

Notice

Tell the dermatologist at consultation if any of the following apply.

  • Pregnancy or lactation
  • Active infection or inflammation in the submental treatment area
  • History of dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
  • Prior submental or neck surgery distorting anatomical landmarks (relative — requires assessment)
  • Bleeding disorders or anticoagulant therapy (relative — requires review)

For your visit

  • Expected post-procedure swelling lasts 1-3 weeks — this is an expected biological response from fat cell destruction, not a complication
  • Avoid heat exposure (sauna, hot baths), strenuous exercise, and alcohol for 1 week
  • 3-5 sessions at 4-week intervals are typically required for optimal results
