3 High-Value Dermatology Procedures for Men in Seoul

Laser hair removal, Botox, and acne care — a Seoul dermatologist explains three practical, good-value procedures that make the biggest difference for men.

This is an English adaptation of a clinical article Dr. SangYoul Yun — board-certified dermatologist and Medical Director of Delight Dermatology in Gangnam, Seoul — originally published in Korean. Read the Korean original on Naver. It has been restructured and translated for international readers.

More men are visiting dermatology clinics than ever — and many are unsure where to start. If you want the biggest, most practical return for your time and money, here are the three procedures I most often recommend to men, especially first-time patients.

1. Laser hair removal

For men coming in for the first time, laser hair removal is usually my first suggestion (it obviously doesn't apply if your beard is very light or sparse). Beyond a cleaner, tidier look, it helps prevent folliculitis — and satisfaction tends to be high. It's also relatively affordable.

We apply a numbing cream first, and the session itself finishes in under five minutes — though it does sting a little. It's especially worth considering if you get recurrent folliculitis around the mouth, or if shaving irritation and micro-injuries keep leaving pigmentation behind.

We use the US-made Candela GentleMax Pro, a well-regarded device. Because hair is the tissue richest in melanin, the laser uses a 755 nm wavelength that targets melanin. A typical course is 5–10 sessions at roughly one-month intervals.

2. Botox

Botox is genuinely one of the best-value procedures we offer. It works well for expression lines that form on the forehead, glabella (between the brows) and around the eyes, and for a prominent square jaw caused by teeth grinding or a strong chewing habit (masseter Botox).

Men often worry the injection will hurt, but the procedure is over in a very short time, so there's little to be anxious about. You'll usually start to feel the effect within 1–2 weeks. You can read more in our Botox guide.

3. Acne and acne-scar treatment

A large share of the men who come in are dealing with long-standing acne and acne scars. When it comes to looking well, skin tone matters — but skin texture matters enormously. An uneven surface is one of the main things that makes skin look tired, so this is where I focus.

There is no one-size-fits-all plan. I build a combination based on:

  • how well you tolerate pain,
  • whether you can afford downtime or need none, and
  • the shape, colour and age of the scars.

From there I combine, as appropriate, chemical peels, laser and energy treatments for pores and scars (fractional laser, RF lifting, microneedling RF, Vbeam), subcision, and skin boosters such as Juvelook and hydrating injections. Our full approach is described in the acne treatment guide.

Men are often more hesitant than women to walk into a dermatology clinic, and many simply never give it much thought. But even these few procedures can meaningfully improve your skin overall — and, with it, day-to-day confidence.

Suitability, the right device and the number of sessions differ from person to person and should be decided after an in-person consultation with a dermatologist. Botox is a prescription treatment administered by a physician.
