Pain-Free Ultherapy & Thermage with Nitrous Oxide
Our clinic uses the FDA-certified MATRx nitrous oxide system to reduce discomfort during Ultherapy and Thermage — a safer alternative to IV sedation.
The comfort question patients always ask
"Does Ultherapy hurt?" and "Is Thermage painful?" are among the most common questions international patients ask before booking. Both procedures use energy-based technology (ultrasound for Ultherapy, radiofrequency for Thermage) that can cause discomfort during treatment. This is normal and expected — but it shouldn't be a reason to avoid effective lifting procedures.

MATRx Nitrous Oxide System: a safer alternative
To provide safer and more comfortable treatments, we introduced the MATRx nitrous oxide (laughing gas) system. Certified by both the U.S. FDA and CE, MATRx is used during procedures that may involve discomfort, such as Ultherapy and Thermage FLX. The system delivers a controlled mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen that reduces anxiety and pain perception while keeping you fully conscious.
- FDA and CE certified medical-grade nitrous oxide delivery
- You stay awake and responsive throughout the procedure
- Takes effect within minutes and wears off quickly after treatment
- No IV needle, no grogginess, no recovery time from sedation
- Ideal for patients who find IV sedation too heavy or who want to communicate during treatment
Who benefits most from nitrous oxide?
The MATRx system is especially helpful for patients who feel uneasy about IV sedation (sleep anesthesia), want to stay conscious and communicate during the procedure, have a lower pain threshold but don't want to skip effective treatments, or are visiting from overseas and need to minimize total recovery time. It's a practical middle ground between no pain management and full sedation.
What to expect during your visit
When you arrive for your Ultherapy or Thermage session, the dermatologist will discuss whether nitrous oxide is appropriate for your case. If it is, a small mask is placed over your nose, and you'll begin to feel relaxed within a few minutes. The procedure is performed as normal, and once the mask is removed, the effects wear off within minutes. You can walk out of the clinic on your own and resume your day.
