Juvelook Volume: Effect, Schedule, Duration & Nodule Risk

Hello, this is Dr. SangYoul Yun, a board-certified dermatologist. Today I'll cover Juvelook Volume, which can help those troubled by cheek hollowing, nasolabial folds, cheekbone/temple hollowing, and marionette lines.

Who is this procedure for?

It's a treatment to add volume and improve elasticity. Anterior and lateral cheek hollows, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines are usually corrected with HA filler. But even though hyaluronic acid (HA) filler can be dissolved, some people are uncomfortable with injecting any foreign material at all. For them, I recommend Juvelook Volume. It can be used under the eyes, but because of nodule risk I don't do that often.

What is Juvelook Volume?

Collagen is what gives skin its elasticity. Collagen loss typically begins after age 18, accelerates from around 25, and after 40 we lose roughly 1% per year — which is why skin starts to sag, wrinkle, and hollow at the cheeks.

Juvelook Volume is a collagen-stimulating product made by combining PDLLA (Poly-D,L-Lactic acid) with hyaluronic acid (HA). Unlike some similar products, its particles are round with many internal spaces — foam-like — which can cause less trauma to surrounding tissue.

At around six months after treatment, the tissue shows increased collagen, and the particles themselves are largely gone — that is, they are biodegradable, which reduces the foreign-body reaction that residual particles can cause. Because the PDLLA and HA are fused together, you can feel hydration and an immediate sense of volume right after the procedure.

How it's done

Juvelook is hydrated and prepared 24 hours in advance, then injected evenly over a broad area using a blunt-tipped cannula.

Schedule and duration

Typically it's three sessions at one-month intervals, lasting roughly 1 to 1.5 years. In my experience, however, volume dips slightly around the six-month mark, so I top it up with a booster session. It's less immediate than filler and requires three sessions, but its clear advantages are that it builds volume through natural collagen formation and that a single vial can fill several areas at once.

Side effects — nodules and swelling

Nodules. Many patients worry about nodules after Juvelook Volume. They're not a common side effect, but because they can cause discomfort if they occur, I avoid the thin under-eye skin where possible. Avoiding too high a concentration when diluting Juvelook also helps lower nodule risk.

Swelling. There may be swelling for about a week after treatment, which subsides as water is reabsorbed. Volume is then rebuilt naturally as collagen forms, so there's no need to be alarmed by the initial swelling.

In summary

I consider Juvelook Volume a good alternative to filler. If you have no particular aversion to filler, HA filler is a fine choice; but if you're uneasy about injecting foreign material, or you want natural volume through collagen regeneration, Juvelook Volume is a good option.
